Indian Market: Sensex drops 677.77 pts

Mumbai/UNI: Extending losses for the third session in row on Friday, the BSE Sensex tanked 677.77 pts to close at 59,306.93 following heavy selling in Energy, IT and Technology stocks amid weak Asian Market.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell by 185.60 pts at 17,671.65.

The equity market remained under pressure throughout the session, as the BSE sensex fell by 127 pts to open at 59,857.33. During the day it was lost ground by 895 pts to 59,089.37, days low, before closing at 59,306.93, slumping 677.77 pts from its previous close.

With this the Sensex has crashed by 2041 pts in three sessions.

The sensex registered days high and low at 60,132.81 and 59,089.37 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,915.85 and 17,613.10 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices that dragged the market were Energy, IT, Technology and Bankex stocks.

The sectoral indices that tumbled down were Energy by 1.90 % followed by IT by 1.60 %, Technology by 1.35 % and Bankex by 1.12 %.

However, buying in Ultracemco, Dr Reddy's Lab, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki and Titan restricted from further losses, broker said.

In scrips, Tech Mahindra was a major loser, down by 3.44 % to Rs 1480 followed by NTPC by 3.05 % to Rs 133.30, IndusInd Bank by 2.62 % to Rs 1144.70 Kotak Bank by 2.53 % to Rs 2044.95 and L&T by 2.51 % to Rs 1766.80.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.16 % while Small Cap declined by 0.38 %.

In 30 scrips, 11 advanced while 19 declined.

Asian markets witnessed a mixed trend today.

The S&P/ASX 200 index was down 1.4 percent, and the Kospi index eased 1.3 percent.

The Hang Seng slipped 0.7 percent, while the Taiwan Weighted index declined 0.3 percent.

While, the Shanghai Composite index gained 0.8 percent, and the Nikkei by 0.3 percent.

Europe market was seen weak as the FTSE 100, DAX 30 and CAC 40 were down 0.2-0.3 percent each.

The Euronext 100 index was down 0.5 per cent.
