Indian Market: Sensex drops 456.09 pts

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex remained under pressure for another session on Wednesday, as the BSE Sensex dropped by 456.09 pts to settle at 61,259.96 on heavy selling in Materials, Energy, Utilities stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell by 152.15 pts to settle at 18,266.60.

Though, the Sensex opened higher by 84 pts to 61,800.07 it immediately slipped. During the day it tumbled down 607 pts to 61,109.29, the days low and finally finished at 61,259.96, sliding by 456.09 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the days high and low at 61,880.36 and 61,109.29 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded the days high and low at 18,458.30 and 18,209.35 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices like Materials, Consumer Durable, Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services and Utilities stocks kept the market low.

In scrips, Titan was a major loser followed by Hind Unilever, NTPC, L& T and Powergrid.

However, buying in Bharti Airtel, SBI, IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Finance capped from further gains, brokers said.

The Mid Cap declined by 1.91 per cent and Small Cap by 2.35 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 7 advanced while 23 declined.

Seeing the Asian Market, barring Hang Seng others were seen flat.

Hang Seng gained 1.3 per cent. The S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.5 per cent, while the Nikkei added 0.2 per cent.

While, Kospi fell 0.5 per cent, while Twain Weighted and Shanghai Composite were down 0.1 per cent each.
