Engineers, doctors and agricultural scientists meet to discuss collective sustainable development in West Bengal

Kolkata/IBNS: Progressive Forum of Engineers, Agriculture Scientists and Doctors recently organized a seminar on sustainable development and measures for improving the standard of lives of people in West Bengal.

The seminar focused on achieving the target by means of socio-economic development and highlighted the importance of a harmonious relationship between nature and mankind.

The seminar, organised at the West Bengal Veterinary Council Hall in Kolkata was inaugurated by Purnendu Basu, Minister-in-Charge, Department of TET & SD, Government of West Bengal.

Also present were Suvendu Adhikari, Minister-in-Charge, Department of Transport and WRIDD, West Bengal - who was the chief guest, Subhasish Chakraborty, MP, Rajya Sabha, and Dr. Debapriya Mallik, former Chairman, PSC, West Bengal.

Multiple sessions were held on key topics, including use of green energy, organic arming, sustainable agriculture, need to establish a culture of low cost engineering and also prescribing low-cost medicines, importance of restoring the lost glory of Naturopathy, prevention of coronavirus, etc.

Engineers and other officers, agricultural scientists and doctors from all over West Bengal attended the seminar.

Speakers included Prof. Dr. Biswajit Ghosh, V.C., Neotia University' Prof. Dr. Shyamal Majumdar, Head of UNESCO – UNEVOC; Dr. Debarshi Bakshi, Principal, IRIIM; Dr. Amit Chaudhuri, Former Assistant Director, CDAC;  and Amit Gupta, Economist,and others.

The seminar also highlighted the importance of prescribing low-cost medication, and popularizing naturoveda.

Prof. Dr. Animesh Deb, Kishanganj Medical College, Bihar., addressed sessions dealing with the current pandemic Coronavirus and its prevention.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Soumen Basu, President, Progressive Forum of Engineers, Agriculture Scientists and Doctors said, ”In the last decade, the world has seen such extreme social and environmental conditions due to global warming, and pollution; as educated and privileged members of the society it is our responsibility to start the conversation around sustainability, low cost engineering and naturopathy. We are extremely honored to have experts from different disciplines to educate us with their erudite presentations about various relevant issues and motivating us to ask questions on not just environmental sustainability but also economical.”
