New Delhi/IBNS: India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has amended the restriction on export of alcohol based hand sanitizer vide a notification issued on June 1, according to the department.

Now, only alcohol based hand sanitizer in containers with dispenser pumps are prohibited.

Alcohol based hand sanitizers exported in any other form/packaging are "FREE" for export with immediate effect, according to the notification.

Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, Association of Indian Medical Devices Industry (AiMeD) said “We are delighted with the easing of export restrictions on sanitizers as production had to be reduced as unsold inventories piled up. This is what was sought in phase 1  to allow exports of large capacity / non pump sanitizer."

He said that they are also hopeful that the government will soon grant permission to export three layer masks and non Covid IVD kits.
