Bengal Chamber hosts annual environment and energy conclave in Kolkata
Kolkata, Aug 23 (IBNS): Amid recent occurrences of climactic havoc all over the world, the Bengal Chamber organized the Energy Tech-Disruptive Innovations in Energy Transition on the 11th Edition of the Annual Environment and Energy Conclave in Kolkata on Thursday.
"The main objective of the conclave was to create a forum to discuss brainstorm and share knowledge and business practices involved in the transition of energy riding on the emerging technologies,” stated Deb A Mukherjee, Managing Director, Indian operations of Cenergist and Chairperson, Energy and Environment Committee, The Bengal Chamber.
“Technological innovations are needed to reduce the carbon emissions in the energy sector.The three D’s of renewable energy –decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitisation are bringing new opportunities and transforming the energy sector”, he added.
P.S. Bhattacharya , Former Chairman, Coal India Ltd. stated that coal production in India will go up till 2030.
“We have to find ways and means of making fossil based power as clean and clear as possible. Affordability and supply of energy has to be assured. Recent findings suggest undue railway freight that coal incurs. So the railway freight structures should be reduced and rationalised to reduce overall cost of coal. There is a need to strike a balance between coal and renewable," he stated.
Ratika Jain, CEO, Global Innovation and Technology Alliance, stated,” According to BP Energy outlook 2018, the Paris goals is technically and economically feasible but require fundamental changes. Wind and solar power will grow rapidly and become major source of electricity by 2050. In coming years Electric vehicles will be the new platform for transforming energy and they will be the game changer.”
Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Minister-in-Charge, Department of Power & Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Government of West Bengal stated that since the Industrial revolution the world has seen irresponsible development that has polluted the world.
"In my state we are dismantling old furnaces. We have also developed our first green city and wish to replicate this across the state. There are 1 crore 85 lakhs power consumers. The target is to produce pollution free power through wind, solar and tidal power. There is a plan to have 1000 MW power project in Purulia. We appreciate the initiative of Bengal Chamber in organising this conclave and we invite any suggestions from the outcome of the deliverables of this conclave."
