Lucknow, July 1 (IBNS): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has termed the Uttar Pradesh government's move to issue SC certificate to 17 Most Backward Castes (MBCs) as "fraud", media reports said.

Mayawati said the government through its orders could not add or remove castes from any of the categories.

The state government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, had earlier tried to implement the Allahabad High Court's order to issue the SC certificate to the 17 MBCs.

The 17 castes are Kashyap, Rajbhar, Dhivar, Bind, Kumar, Kahar, Kewat, Nishad, Bhar, Mallah, Prajapati, Dhivar, Batham, Turha, Godia, Manjul and Madhua.

Earlier Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav had tried to take the step during their respective tenures as the Chief Minister.
