Yogi Adityanath calls Army 'Modi ji ki Sena', Opposition hits back

New Delhi, Apr 1 (IBNS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recently referred to the Indian Army as "Modiji ki Sena", prompting the Opposition to hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.

During his campaign for the upcoming General Election, which will begin on Apr 11, Adityanath on Sunday said while Congress used to feed terrorists with biryani (a food item), the Army of Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives bullets to the terrorists.

What was impossible for Congress is possible for Modi, the Chief Minister had said.

Opposition reacts strongly:

Hitting back at the UP Chief Minister, Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted, "Now Yogi Adityanath has named the Indian Army as Modi ki Sena. This is an insult to our armed forces. They are India’s Armed Forces not the private army of Prachaar Mantri. Adityanath must apologise."

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo, Mamata Banerjee, said on Twitter, "It is shocking to hear the UP CM saying that the Indian Army is the ‘Modi Sena’. Such blatant personalisation and usurping of our beloved Indian Army is an insult and a humiliation

We are proud of our Army. They belong to all. They are a great asset of our nation, and not a cassette of the BJP. People of this country must stand up and reject this statement."

Pulwama attack and IAF's response:

Pakistan-based militant organisation, Jaish-e-Mohammed, had carried out a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama on Feb 14. The attack had left over 40 Indian paramilitary personnel martyred.

As a response, the Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out an airstrike across the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Other BJP leaders who triggered row over airstrike:

Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa had said the airstrike will help BJP to win 22 out of 28 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the southern state.

BJP national president Amit Shah had claimed over 250 terrorists were killed in the airstrike while the IAF couldn't tell the actual figure.
