Won't allow Citizenship Amendment Bill: Mamata Banerjee hits out at BJP
Kolkata, Apr 8 (IBNS): Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s poll promise to enact Citizenship Amendment Bill after returning to power, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she will not allow it to happen.
"We will not allow Citizenship Amendment Bill. It will turns Indians into foreigners for five years," Banerjee, the chief of Trinamool Congress, said at a public rally in north Bengal.
Banerjee also referred to Narendra Modi as "expiry Prime Minister and former Prime Minister" and said he won't return to power in 2019.
Releasing the manifesto, BJP's senior leader Rajnath Singh said: "We will pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill in both the houses of the parliament."
Apart from Citizenship Bill, the BJP has promised to double farmers' income by 2022.
Terming Nationalism and unity as priorities for the government, the Prime Minister said, "we have planned out goals that are time-bound and well defined. Nationalism, unity, and security are to be the party's priority for the 2019 election."
Making a pitch for his re-election, Modi said. "by 2047, which will be 100 years of Independence, it is my dream that India is established as a developed country. The foundation for that dream are the coming five years, the duration between 2019 to 2024.’’
The Lok Sabha polls will begin on Apr 11.
