Women's Commission notice to Rahul Gandhi for 'misogynistic' comments
New Delhi, Jan 10 (IBNS): The National Commission for Women on Thursday sent a notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi and sought explanations for his alleged remarks against women.
Taking suo moto cognisance of media reports which quoted Gandhi saying "... the PM ran away and asked a 'mahila' - a veiled reference to defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman - to defend him", the commission sent him the notice.
The commission also took offence to Rahul telling the PM on Twitter to "be a man".
The commission found the remarks "misogynistic, offensive, unethical" and believed it revealed the Congress president's "extreme disrespect towards the dignity and honour of women in general".
National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma tweeted: "What is @rahulgandhi trying to imply with his misogynistic statement- “... ek mahila say kaha meri raksha kiijiye."? Does he think women are weak? The irony- calling an accomplished defence minister of the largest democracy a weak person."

While Rahul made the "mahila" comment at a rally, the second one was on Twitter.
The Congress president on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "be an man" and answer his question on the deal of buying of 36 fighter jets by India from France.

Rahul took to Twitter to ask Modi whether the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the defence ministry had objected to the "bypassing" of the Rafale deal.
The Congress chief, whose party was linked to several scams during the latter part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, had alleged that Modi gave the offset contract to his businessman friend Anil Ambani to benefit the latter.
The tweet reads, "With all due respect Modi Ji, in our culture respect for women begins at home. Stop shaking. Be a man and answer my question: Did the Air Force and Defence Ministry object when you bypassed the original Rafale deal? Yes? Or No? "
