A 56-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her tenants over a tenancy-related dispute in the Narahi area of Ballia district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Monday.

Police sources said Khairun Nisha, a resident of Buxar district in Bihar, owned a house in Ujiarpur village under Narahi police station, which she had given on rent.

"On Sunday morning, she came to collect the rent, and her body was found inside the house late at night. There were injury marks on the head," they said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Durga Prasad Tiwari said preliminary investigation has revealed that the woman was having a dispute with her tenants over rent.

"Prima facie, it seems that she had been murdered over the tenancy dispute," he said.

He said on the complaint of the deceased's son, Haider, a case of murder has been lodged against three tenants. "The matter is being investigated," he said.
