Wife of a COVID-19 patient tests positive in Assam, state tally surges to 32

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam reported one more positive case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, after a woman from Dhubri district tested positive for the infection, taking the state tally to 32.

Confirming the report, Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the woman is the wife of a COVID-19 positive person who is connected with Nizamuddin Markaz and Athgaon Kabristan Mosque, Guwahati congregation.

“A woman from Dhubri has tested #COVID positive. She is wife of a #COVID19 positive person who is connected both with #NizamuddinMarkaz, and Athgaon Kabristan congregation in Guwahati," tweeted Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Earlier, the Assam Health minister said over 100 people, including eight Tablighi Jamaat attendees, were present in a religious congregation held at Athgaon Kabristan Mosque in Guwahati on March 12, of which three people tested positive for COVID-19.

Assam has reported 32 positive cases for COVID-19 so far, including nine cases from Golaghat district, four each from Nalbari, Morigaon, Goalpara, Dhubri districts, and one each from South Salmara, Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Cachar and Hailakandi district.

One COVID-19 positive patient from Hailakandi district died on April 10, while 31 cases are still active in the state.
