PM Modi turns 76: From 25 years in public life to yoga, fasting and ‘Panchtatva’ walk — his life beyond politics

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, September 17, as prominent personalities and political leaders extended birthday wishes to him.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has planned an elaborate series of programmes to mark Modi's birthday, which also coincides with his completion of 25 years in public life.

Modi became the Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and remained in the post until 2014, when he became the Prime Minister. He has since served as Prime Minister for three consecutive terms, beginning in 2014.

PM Modi's 76th birthday: Celebration plans

The BJP has launched a month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan from September 17 to October 17 to mark Modi's birthday and his 25 years in public life.

The campaign includes service-oriented activities, public outreach, welfare initiatives and programmes highlighting government schemes.

The celebrations include:

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan: The nationwide campaign focuses on public service, welfare activities and outreach programmes.
Service activities: Blood donation camps, health camps, cleanliness drives and other public-service initiatives are being organised at various locations.

Varanasi events: Modi's parliamentary constituency is hosting programmes linked to his 25 years in public life.

Bike rallies: A major bike yatra connecting Modi's birthplace Vadnagar with Varanasi is among the programmes being organised to highlight his political journey.

Gujarat celebrations: Special events include diya-lighting programmes, religious and cultural gatherings, tree plantation and other initiatives.

West Bengal: The state is also observing the occasion through service-oriented programmes, including medical camps, blood donation drives and cleanliness initiatives.

25 years in public life: The campaign has been used to commemorate Modi's journey since he became Gujarat Chief Minister in October 2001.

Apart from his political career, Modi's fitness and lifestyle habits have frequently attracted public attention. Over the years, he has spoken about maintaining physical fitness despite his demanding schedule.

PM Modi's fitness routine

His routine includes yoga, walking, breathing exercises, meditation and fasting.

Yoga and breathing exercises

Yoga has been an important part of Modi's fitness routine.

He has publicly demonstrated various yoga asanas, including Surya Namaskar, and has also spoken about incorporating breathing exercises into his routine.

Walking and Panchtatva practice

Modi has also highlighted walking as part of his daily fitness regime.

His Panchtatva walking track, inspired by the five elements — earth, water, fire, air and sky — has received attention as part of his wellness routine.

The practice involves walking across different surfaces, including grass, stones and water, and has been described as a refreshing part of his routine.

Meditation and fasting

Meditation has also featured in accounts of Modi's daily routine.

The Prime Minister has additionally spoken about his long-standing practice of fasting.

In his conversation with Lex Fridman, he discussed fasting over several decades, with his practices varying during periods such as Navratri and Chaturmas.

Simple food and disciplined lifestyle

Modi has frequently spoken about maintaining discipline in his eating habits. Reports on his lifestyle describe a preference for simple vegetarian food and mindful eating.

His approach to fitness has generally focused on consistency and discipline rather than conventional gym-based workouts.

As Modi turns 76, his birthday celebrations are therefore being marked not only through political and public events but also by renewed attention on the lifestyle and fitness habits he has discussed over the years.
