Kolkata/IBNS: A West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) official posted in South 24 Parganas district and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pragati Maidan Police Station in Kolkata's east division have tested positive for novel coronavirus, reports said on Sunday.

According to reports, both the officials are undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of a state government requisitioned private health facility at EM Bypass area.

State health officials said that swab sample of the senior police officer's wife had been sent for test while the woman had also been admitted in hospital isolation with Covid symptoms.

Officials said that contact tracing process was underway to identify and quarantine all those persons who recently came in contact with these two corona infected administrative officers.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Police have already sanitized and disinfected entire Pragati Maidan Police Station, its adjacent Tiljala Traffic Guard's office and the residence of the OC.

Weeks ago, Officer-in-Charge of west Kolkata's Garden Reach Police Station and two cops from another north Kolkata police station had tested Covid-19 positive.

Presently, there are 639 active Covid-19 positive cases in West Bengal while the number of deaths directly caused by novel coronavirus has mounted to 48, according to a Covid bulletin issued by state health and family welfare department on Saturday (May 2) night.
