Kolkata/IBNS: After a social media video showing a policewoman harassing and slapping a nursing staff, while she was going to report for her night duty, at Chandannagar in West Bengal's Hooghly district went viral, local police have ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident, reports said on Wednesday.

According to reports, a staff nurse of Chandannagar Sub-Divisional hospital was stopped by police at a naka checkpoint, while she was going to join her emergency duty with another person from her Singur residence, on Monday (Apr 27) night.

Even after showing her documents and lockdown-pass to the police personnel on duty at the naka point, the nurse was allegedly harassed and slapped by a lady cop.

Police reportedly detained the duo and took them to Chandannagar Police Station following the incident.

Later, a senior medical officer from state-run Chandannagar SD hospital rushed to the police station and released the nurse as well as her partner.

However, Chandannagar Police Commissioner Humayun Kabir said that he was aware of the matter and a departmental inquiry had been initiated into the incident.

"Adequate action will be taken after the inquiry concludes," Humayun Kabir said.
