Kalyani, Aug 9 (UNI) A woman was attacked on Thursday night with a knife by a man, when she protested his presence in the ladies' compantment, exclusively reserved for women commuters, of Down Kalyani local.

The Government Railway Police(GRP) said the injured woman has been admitted to the Jawahar Lal Nehru Hospital here with knife wounds on her hands and body.

The woman, a professional attender attached to a hospital, was returning home from her work.

The eye witnesses said the woman told the man, who was trying to board the ladies' compartment of the train, that the compartment was only for women. This infuriated the man and he took out a sharp weapon and began striking the woman with it.

Seeing this, the other women in the compartment began to leave the compartment, but four male

commuters, who were on the platform, chased the attacker. However, the assailant jumped out of the train and fled.
