Delhi women's safety under spotlight: 17-year-old allegedly gang-raped near Kalkaji Mandir in fourth such incident in 10 days
New Delhi/IBNS: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men at a park near Kalkaji Mandir in South Delhi on Monday, media reports said.
The accused allegedly posed as police officers before threatening and sexually assaulting the girl, who was accompanied by a male friend.
Accused allegedly posed as cops
According to reports, the girl had visited Kalkaji Mandir with her male friend at around 7 pm. The two later went to a nearby park, where three men, aged between 25 and 30, allegedly approached them claiming to be police officers.
The accused allegedly threatened the two before sexually assaulting the girl.
One of the accused allegedly used a firearm and a knife to threaten the girl during the assault.
Police launch probe
Police reached the spot after receiving a PCR call at around 8:45 pm.
Investigators scanned CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas and collected information about people who may have been present at the location when the alleged crime took place.
Multiple teams were formed to intensify the investigation and trace the accused.
Accused injured in police encounter
After a probe team gathered information about the movement of one of the accused near DM Office Road, police allegedly laid a trap to intercept him.
The accused, identified as Asif, allegedly opened fire at the police after being intercepted. Police retaliated, injuring him in the right leg.
Asif was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
The search for the two other accused is underway.

The incident comes amid concerns over women's safety in the national capital, with reports indicating that it is the fourth similar crime in Delhi over the past 10 days.
