London: The parent company of social media giant TikTok has decided to discontinue negotiations to open its global headquarters in the United Kingdom in the backdrop of deterioration of relations between Beijing and London.

The Sunday Times reported that the Chinese media firm ByteDance had been in talks to launch its operations in the UK for several months now, a development that could have created 3,000 jobs.

The decision to discontinue negotiations was taken in the backdrop of a "wider geopolitical context," a source told the newspaper.

Of late Chinese tech firms have been subjected to increasing scrutiny and restrictions in various countries of the world.
