Uttar Pradesh: 24 migrant workers killed in road accident in Auraiya

Auraiya/UNI/IBNS: Around 24 migrant workers were killed and over 20 others injured in a collision between two trucks on the National Highway-2 here on early Saturday morning.

District Magistrate Abhishek Singh here said that the accident took place near Chirauri village at around 0330 hrs when the truck in which labourers were travelling in hit the stationary mini truck.

Both the vehicles, loaded with around 70 migrant workers overturned and fell on the road side ditch.

The DM said that most of the migrant workers were from Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal and were coming from Delhi.

He said while one truck was standing near a dhaba and the other one hit it, when its driver lost control over its steering wheel.

The local villagers rushed to the spot for rescue.

The injured have been rushed to the hospital where condition of several were stated to be critical.

Senior officials rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the unfortunate incident in Auraiya.

He has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the labourers who lost their lives.

The CM has also directed that all the injured be provided medical care immediately and the Commissioner and IG Kanpur to visit the site and give the report on the cause of the accident promptly.
