Uttar Pradesh: 10 die, 7 injured as mini truck overturns in Pilibhit

Pilibhit/UNI: Ten people, including three women and three children, were killed whereas 7 others injured when a mini truck overturned in Gajraula area on Thursday morning.

Police sources said that 16 members of a family, all residents of Gola in Lakhimpur Kheri district, had gone to Haridwar for Ganga Snan after their daughter's marriage.

"On Thursday while they were returning back to Gola the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned around 4 am on Lucknow-Pilibhit highway. While six persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to injury at the hospital," they said.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Amitabh Rai said that the victims include Laxmi (28), Rachna (28), Sarala Devi (60), Harsh (16), Khushi (2), Sushant (14), Anand (3), Lalman (65), Shyam Sunder (55) and driver Dilshad (35).

Police sources said that the injured were admitted to the district hospital from where three have been referred to a higher center in Bareilly for treatment. District Magistrate Pulkit Khare and Superintendent of Police Dinesh Prabhu visited the spot and inquired about the condition of the injured.

Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over deaths in the road accident. "The officers have been directed to carry out relief and rescue work and to arrange treatment of those injured. Praying to Lord Shri Ram to grant peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured," he tweeted.
