UPI trail cracks Suvendu Adhikari aide Chandranath Rath murder case; three arrested
Kolkata/IBNS: Three people have been arrested in connection with the killing of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath, media reports said.
The accused — Vishal Srivastava, Raj Singh and Mayank Mishra — were arrested from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Police tracked suspects through UPI payment
Police reportedly got a breakthrough after tracking a UPI payment made by one of the assailants at a toll booth in Bally.
Rath shot dead in Madhyamgram
Rath was shot dead in Madhyamgram on Wednesday night, triggering fresh political tremors in the state.
Reports said the victim was attacked at point-blank range after allegedly being followed for some time.
According to local television reports, the driver of Rath’s car also sustained injuries in the attack.
Victim suffered multiple bullet injuries
Rath reportedly suffered three bullet wounds — two in the chest and one in the stomach — and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The bike-borne assailants fled the spot immediately after the shooting, and their identities are yet to be fully established.
Fake number plate used in attack
Police said the number plate used on the attackers’ vehicle was fake.
Reports added that the original vehicle number belonged to a person from Siliguri, who claimed he had listed the vehicle for sale on OLX.
