UP Polls: Congress wanted to form alliance with BSP with Mayawati as CM

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has slammed BSF chief Mayawati for not responding to his party's offer of forming an alliance for UP polls with her as the chief minister candidate, media reports said.

He accused the BSP chief of giving a clear passage to the BJP for "the CBI, the ED and Pegasus", reported NDTV.

Congress managed to get only two seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly has 403 members and a vote share of less than 2.5 percent in Uttar Pradesh.

A whopping 97 percent of Congress candidates lost their security deposit.

BSP's performance was equally disappointing as it failed to use its Dalit card. It could secure only one seat and its remaining candidates lost the election.

Gandhi made the claim while releasing the book "The Dalit Truth".

He said the Constitution is a weapon but it is meaningless without institutions which, he alleged, have been ''captured by the RSS'', stated the report.

Gandhi said neither the institutions nor the country was under the control of the people. "This is not a new assault. It started the day when Mahatma Gandhi was killed with bullets."

"We gave a message to Mayawati to form an alliance and asked her to become the chief minister. She did not even talk to us," he claimed.

Gandhi said he has respect for BSP patriarch Kanshi Ram for articulating the Dalit voice of Uttar Pradesh though Congress had suffered during that time, according to the report.

"But Mayawati ji is saying that I will not fight for it .. she gave a clear passage to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Why? (because of ) CBI, the ED and Pegasus," he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
