Lucknow/UNI: Slamming the Uttar Pradesh government, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said that it should change its arrogant and authoritarian attitude and play a big role in making the victim family get justice in a speedy manner.

The BSP chief said that following the Hathras gang rape case, a BSP delegation had first gone to the Bulgarh village to meet the victim family and seek information on facts on Sep 28.

She added, "During this time, the family was called to the station itself and they had talked to them. The report, which came out of the conversation, was extremely sad, which forced me to go to the media."

She said, "Later, the misbehavior with the media when it went there and the police lathicharge of the opposition leaders which happened in the past one-two days is extremely condemnable and shameful.

"I advise the government to change its arrogant and authoritarian attitude, or the roots of democracy will weaken."
