Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviews security situation in J&K ahead of Amarnath Yatra

New Delhi, Jun 4 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Amarnath Yatra, commencing from July 1.

The Home Minister was apprised of general security scenario and forthcoming Amarnath Yatra from July1 by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Jammu and Kashmir Additional Secretary Gyanesh Kumar and other senior officials of the Ministry.

He was also apprised of the security challenges in the Valley for Yatra as the Jammu and Kashmir administration has sought 300 companies of security forces as against 238 companies in 2018.

“The Home Minister wants that the pilgrims should be provided best possible facilities and fool proof security arrangement for Amarnath Yatra and has instructed the officials to make foolproof security arrangements for the forthcoming yatra”, a senior Home Ministry officials said.

Shah was informed that this year during Ramzaan security forces have eliminated 25 terrorists where as 11 terrorists were neutralised when the 'Suspension of Operation' was announced by the Centre last year. There were 37 terror attacks in 2018, killing 12 persons and injuring 41. This year till May, only seven terror attacks have been reported. He also reiterated the zero tolerance policy for security forces on terror and infiltration.

Shah has already held a separate meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on June 1 soon after assuming the charge of the Ministry.

He also chaired the first high level security meeting with NSA, Home Secretary and intelligence Chiefs on Monday and the issue of Jammu Kashmir was also discussed in length.
