TMC to abstain from voting in Vice Presidential election: Abhishek Banerjee

| @indiablooms | Jul 21, 2022, at 11:28 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee Thursday announced his party will "abstain from the voting process" in the upcoming Vice Presidential election.

The election is going to be held between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee Jagdeep Dhankhar, a former West Bengal Governor and Opposition, sans TMC and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), nominee Margaret Alva.

"Ideologically there is no question of supporting Jagdeep Dhankhar," said Banerjee and added, "The way the Opposition came up with a candidate without consulting the party (TMC) which has 35 MPs is objectionable as well."

"Not supporting Margeret Alva doesn't mean breaking the Opposition unity. We have to change our thought process," added the number two man of TMC.

The Vice Presidential poll will be held Aug 6.
