Kolkata, Feb 9 (IBNS): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Krishnaganj assembly constituency in West Bengal's Nadia district, Satyajit Biswas, was shot dead during an event in his area on Saturday night, reports said.

According to reports, few unidentified miscreants fired few rounds of bullets aiming at the TMC leader from point-blank range at around 8:30 pm. when the MLA was attending a Saraswati puja programme at local Fulbari area.

Biswas was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Local TMC leadership accused the BJP of killing the senior Trinamool leader while West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh claimed that the incident was an outcome of the factional feud in state's ruling party.

Following the incident, a huge police force have been deployed in the area and local police have started an investigation into the case while none has been arrested in connection with the murder so far.

Meanwhile, senior TMC leader and minister Partha Chatterjee said those who killed Biswas would be brought to book and not be spared, blaming the crime on the BJP.
