Kolkata/IBNS: In a huge drama that unfolded on Monday morning, Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha threw away his phones, tried to flee as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided him and his relatives in connection with the probe into the irregularities in recruitment of staff in schools.

The raids were conducted by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Saha, who was at her residence in Andi village of Murshidabad district.

As per a report by Anandabazar Patrika, Saha tried to flee through the backdoor of his house when the ED officials raided him.

Three ED officials chased him and ultimately caught the politician, whose mobile phones were recovered from the drain. He is currently being quizzed by the central probe agency.

Saha, who was arrested by CBI in 2023, had even thrown his phones to a nearby pond. The phones were later recovered.

The Burwan MLA was granted bail 13 months later.

Meanwhile, his aunt and TMC councillor from Birbhum's Sainthia, Maya Saha, as well as Jiban Krishna Saha's in-laws have also been raided simultaneously.

Ex-Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, former primary education board president and Trinamool MLA Manik Bhattacharya, youth leader Kuntal Ghosh are among the people who have been arrested so far in connection with the scam.

Former Calcutta High Court judge and now a BJP MP, Abhijit Ganguly had ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
