Srinagar/UNI:  Three militants were killed in an encounter during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Saturday.

Official sources said that following specific information about the presence of militants, a joint search operation was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF in DH Pora in Kulgam in the wee hours on Saturday.

They said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

“The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” they said, adding three militants were killed in the exchange of fire so far.

The operation was still going on as there are reports that several militants are still trapped in the area.

They said additional security forces have been rushed and the area has been further cordoned off to foil any attempts by militants to escape.
