Three BJP workers killed by terrorists in J&K, PM Modi condemns attack

Srinagar/IBNS: Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, including a youth leader, were killed on Thursday in a terrorist attack in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said.

"Today at about 2020 hours, Kulgam Police received information about a terror crime incident at village YK Pora, where terrorists had fired upon three BJP workers. Senior police officers reached at the crime spot," the J&K police said in a statement.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared as brought dead.

The BJP leaders have been identified as Fida Hussain Itoo (BJYM District Gen Secy Kulgam),  Umer Rashid Beigh (BJYM District Executive Member Kulgam) and Umer Hanan (BJYM District Gen Secy Kulgam).

Preliminary investigation revealed that terrorists fired on these three BJP workers, police said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the killing of his party workers.

"I condemn the killing of 3 of our young Karyakartas. They were bright youngsters doing excellent work in J&K. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls rest in peace," he wrote in a tweet.

National Conference leader and former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah has condemned the attack.

"Terrible news from Kulgam district of South Kashmir. I unequivocally condemn the targeted killing of the 3 BJP workers in a terror attack. May Allah grant them place in Jannat & may their families find strength during this difficult time," he tweeted.

Former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her condolence for the bereaved families.

"Saddened to hear about the killing of three BJP workers in Kulgam. Condolences to their families. At the end of the day, its people of J&K who pay with their lives because of GOI’s ill thought out policies," her tweet read.

Police have lodged a case of murder and cordoned off the area amid search for the terrorists.

Several BJP workers in J&K have been killed by terrorists in the last few months.
