New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said there should be an 'open dialogue' in the Parliament during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament which commenced from Monday.

Ahead of the start of the session, Modi told media: "There should be dialogue in Parliament with an open mind, if necessary."

"I feel there should be good discussion and analyses of matters during this session," he said.

He said the MPs should ensure that the session should be made 'productive and fruitful'.

"We should all work together to ensure that the Parliament takes good decisions," he said.

"This session is also important as voting to elect a new President and Vice President is being done now," he said.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are voting to elect a new President of the country on Monday.

The contest is taking place between National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu and Opposition’s joint pick Yashwant Sinha.
