New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court Tuesday extended the interim bail to Bhima-Koregaon case accused Varavara Rao, a well known poet, till Jul 19 on medical grounds after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought adjournment of the matter.

"Interim protection to continue till further orders," a three-judge Bench headed by Justice Uday Umesh Lalit said.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta did not oppose the extension of bail granted to Rao.

Rao's earlier temporary medical bail granted by the Bombay High Court ends on Tuesday, forcing him to knock on the doors of the Supreme Court for extension of his bail and relief.

The 82-year-old sought permanent medical bail due to his poor health.
