Supreme Court dismisses petition against imposition of NSA
New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the imposition of the National Security Act or NSA in some states and the national capital amid anti-CAA protests.
The petition was disposed of by a bench of Judges Indira Banerjee and Arun Mishra. The bench said it cannot pass a blanket order against the implementation of the National Security Act and asked Advocate ML Sharma to withdraw the petition.
The bench asked him to file a fresh petition or file an interim application in pending petitions on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) giving specific details of violation of NSA.
The petition had been filed questioning the motive of the imposition of NSA, saying that it was imposed to curb the protests against CAA, National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
On Jan 10, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal gave Delhi Police the power to detain a person for 12 months under NSA for the next three months. starting Jan 19.
