Supreme Court asks Centre if it is making guidelines for linking Aadhaar with FB, WhatsApp
New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Centre whether they were formulating any guidelines for linking Aadhaar with social media platforms--facebook and WhatsApp.
A bench headed by Justice Deepak Gupta also asked the Centre on any guidelines in process to regulate the social media.
The top court fixed September 24 as the next date of hearing.
Facebook and WhatsApp has sought transfer of petition filed in Bombay, Madhya Pradesh and Madras High Court to Supreme Court for a final decision on the matter.
The social media platforms had strongly objected to Aadhaar linkage, saying it would affect the privacy of its users. It said a nine-judge Bench of the Supreme Court had upheld privacy as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution.
However, the petitions say that by linking Aadhaar, it would be easier to identify the offender on social media.
