New Delhi/IBNS: A second fire broke out on the fully loaded supertanker MT New Diamond, that was ablaze just a few days ago off the coast of Sri Lanka, the Indian Navy said on Monday.

The Navy has intensified efforts to douse off the fire.

The Salvage Team arrived at the scene to bring the fire under control.

In a tweet, the India Navy stated: "#Update Re-ignition of fire observed on Starboard (Right) side of #MTNewDiamond. Fire-fighting & boundary cooling efforts intensified to bring fire under control. Salvage Team has arrived at scene. Additional assets, salvage personnel & FF equipment also en route."

The MT New Diamond, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) chartered by the Indian Oil Corporation, was carrying 270,000 metric tonnes of crude oil from Kuwait to India's Paradip.

It had caught fire on Thursday. The Indian Coast Guard ships, Sri Lankan Navy ships and Tug boats had then doused the fire on the oil tanker.

It was being escorted by INS Sahyadri, the Navy had said.
