Sri Sri Ravi Shankar declines Padma award

Bangalore, Jan 24 (IBNS) Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Saturday declined the Padma Vibushan award and asked the government to confer it to 'someone else'.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar  said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had called him to inform about the award.

He tweeted: "Rajnath Singhji called to inform me about Padma Awards.I thank Govt.for considering me.Instead of me, I'd like them to honour someone else."
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev earlier rejected to accept the  Padma Vibhushan award and asked Rajnath Singh to select any other person for it.

Ina  letter to Singh, Baba Ramdev has mentioned about the media reports that the Government was considering his name for Padma Vibhushan and said: "I express gratitude from the bottom of my heart for the government’s goodwill."

"I am a Sanyasi (holyman) and I  consider it to be my duty to follow my sanyas, national and seva (service) dharm without any expectations or attachments," he said.

He urged the government to give the award to any other deserving person who is 'doing praiseworthy work'.

The yoga practitioner also tweeted: "It's my rashtra dharma & sanyas dharma to serve my nation. I can't take any award for it. My letter to hon. home min."

Padma Vibhushan is the country's second highest civilian award.
