Gurugram/IBNS: Aviation major SpiceJet operated a special flight from Delhi to Jodhpur on Sunday for 136 Indian nationals evacuated from COVID-19 hit Iran who have been taken to a Government quarantine facility in the city.

This special flight SG 9001 was operated as per Government of India’s request and the airline had deployed its Boeing 737 aircraft for this purpose.

The flight took off at 6:25 am from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport and landed at Jodhpur airport at 8:20 am. All safety protocols laid down by the Government were strictly adhered to by crew members. The aircraft has been disinfected thoroughly after the flight.

Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet, said, “We are proud to have operated this special flight to facilitate the transfer of 136 fellow Indians from Delhi to Jodhpur. We, at SpiceJet, stand committed to provide our services on each and every occasion of such national crisis and it will be our honour to assist in whatever way possible in future."

Singh said: "SpiceJet has put its cargo fleet to optimum use to ensure that supplies of essential items, cold chain medical supplies, medicines, medical equipment and relief material are done in the shortest possible time. We are also providing doorstep deliveries to pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, diagnostic centres across the country.”

SpiceXpress, SpiceJet’s dedicated cargo arm, has been doing doorstep deliveries of essential supplies, medicines and medical equipment in Bengaluru, Patna, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Raipur, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Visakhapatnam, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara, Kochi, Guwahati, Jammu, Lucknow among other cities.

The airline has helped transport many emergency consignments including IR Thermometers, required to detect COVID-19, to Kolkata from Hong Kong and will be operating more flights this week. Special cargo flights have been operated to Gujarat and other States too.

The airline has also operated special cargo flights to Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and other countries taking fresh fruits and vegetables and helping Indian farmers maintain continuity of their supply chains.

SpiceJet is also operating dedicated freighter services from Chennai & Vishakhapatnam to Surat & Kolkata to help India’s Shrimp farmers. Till now, shrimp hatcheries used to face a lot of problems in transporting seeds in the absence of dedicated flights leading to a high mortality rate of shrimp seeds which in turn led to heavy losses.
