New Delhi/UNI: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday wrote to the Enforcement Directorate seeking postponement of her questioning by the agency citing health reasons, the Congress said on Wednesday.

The ED has accepted the request and a fresh date of summoning will be issued.

The Congress president is suffering from post-Covid complications and also contracted a lung infection. She was in Sir Ganga Ram hospital for over a week and was released on Monday.

"Since she has been strictly advised to rest at home following her hospitalisation on account of Covid and lung infection, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has written to ED today seeking the postponement of her appearance there by a few weeks till she has recovered completely," Congress media department chief Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet.

Congress had announced on June 2 that Sonia Gandhi had tested positive for Covid, and she was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram hospital on June 13.

The Congress President was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on June 23 in a money laundering case.

Rahul Gandhi has already appeared for questioning at the ED for five days and has been questioned for over 50 hours.

As per the complaint filed in the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate, Associated Journals Limited (AJL) took an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore from Indian National Congress, which was not paid back.

Congress has maintained there is no money laundering involved and has called the summon a politically motivated move.
