Ranchi/UNI: The norms of lockdown and social distancing were set aside in the Jharkhand's capital Ranchi as people took to streets, protesting against burial of a man, who had died of coronavirus infection, in the local 'Kabristaan' (graveyard).

Locals in large numbers, including men and women came out on Ratu Road, protesting against the burial of the man at the burial ground located in Ratu Road of the state capital.

The deceased was a resident of Hindpiri and had died in RIMS due to coronavirus infection.

The police and the local administration had not brought the body along with them and only came to look into the arrangements.

Earlier, the team faced protest at another location when it went to the burial ground located at Joda Talaab of Bariyatu.

The police tried to calm the people with reason but they did not pay heed, after which the policemen went to Ratu Raod Kabristaan.

At Ratu Road the people came out on the roads in large numbers.

The people argued that if the body was buried there, Coronavirus infection might spread in the area and demanded that the body should be buried outside the city.

The police and administrative authorities tried to convince the people but the did not relent on their demand, after which police agreed not to bury the body at that spot.

The people went back to their homes only after all the four gates of the Kabristaan were sealed.
