Sikkim inaugurates Model ICDS Centres in partnership with Amway India

Gangtok, Sept 26 (IBNS) : The Department of Social Justice, Empowerment & Welfare Department of Government of Sikkim announced the completion of four model Integrated Child Development Centres (ICDS) in partnership with Amway India.

The project was part of the initiatives undertaken by the State Government to reconstruct the earthquake affected ICDS Centres after the devastating earthquake in 2011.

 Amway India has extended financial assistance to the state government for constructing four ICDS centres in Sikkim ministers  Ugen T Gyatso and Tulsi Devi Rai inaugurated the Aap Dara Anganwadi Centre (AWC) in Singtam District of Sikkim in presence of Diptarag Bhattacharjee, Vice President Eastern Region, Amway India .

The other three ICDS Centres constructed in partnership with Amway India are located in Mangan Bazar II, North Sikkim, Kheni Sherbong, West Sikkim and Temi 10th Line South Sikkim.

While inaugurating the model ICDS Centre at Aapdara,  Ugen T Gyatso  said, “We welcome participation from Industry in the reconstruction of earthquake ravaged parts of the state. I am thankful to Amway India for coming forward and supporting the reconstruction of the model ICDS Centres with complete financial assistance.”

 Tulsi Devi Rai said, “The  ICDS centers are used for holistic development of infants that include preschool non formal education and healthcare service . These model ICDS centers developed with the support of Amway have proper facility of toilet, drinking water and other hygiene factors which are normally compromised due to budget factor.”

Speaking on the occasion,   Diptarag Bhattacharjee, Vice President, Eastern Region, Amway India, said, “ We are happy to  have fulfilled the promise that we made to the Government of Sikkim. ICDS centre is a wonderful initiative that focuses on providing holistic development of children. The centres supported by Amway India have facilities like toilets, proper drinking water for the benefit of the children. We are thankful to the Govt. of Sikkim for providing Amway an opportunity to partner in such a meaningful project. We are looking forward to be associated with more such projects.”

Integrated Child Development Services Scheme is a unique welfare initiative taken by Government of India to address early childhood development. The scheme was launched in 1975 with an objective of providing pre-school education on one hand and to improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0 to 6 years as well.
