Dharamshala, Apr 5 (UNI) A tragedy struck a family of Galoor village in this district, falling under Jawalamukhi police station, when a minor son and daughter of a family drowned in Beas river, police said here on Friday.

Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jawalamukhi Tilak Raj today told UNI that three children of one family comprising two sisters and a brother, all minors, from Galoor village had gone to river Beas near Chambapattan to feed the fish.

The incident happened when Nisha(14), while feeding the fish, slipped into the Beas river and his brother Sandeep alias Kaploo (16) jumped into the river to save her, but both of them drowned in the deep waters of the Beas river. The youngest daughter Shilpa (11) who witnessed the tragedy dashed to her home and informed her parents about the incident.

Parents and villagers immediately then rushed to the spot and subsequently the police was informed.

SDPO further said that after few hours of strenuous search, with the help of local divers, the bodies of Nisha and Sandeep were recovered late this afternoon adding that the bodies were then sent to DRPG Medical College Tanda for the postmortem which will be conducted tomorrow.

The Police have registered the case under Section 174 CRPC and further probe is on.
