Shubho Nababarsho gift to us: Mamata Banerjee after TMC's win in Bengal bypolls

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has termed her party Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s win in two byelections in the state as a Nababarsho or the Bengali New Year "gift" to the outfit's organisation.

Banerjee tweeted, "I sincerely thank the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving decisive mandate to AITC party candidates."

"We consider this to be our people's warm Shubho Nababarsho gift to our Ma- Mati- Manush organization. Salute to the voters for reposing faith in us, yet again."

Battling the 'outsider' jibe, veteran Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha is all set to earn the TMC its maiden win in West Bengal's one of the biggest cities, Asansol, where parliamentary byelection was held on Apr 12.

The Asansol Lok Sabha constituency fell vacant after the resignation of Union Minister Babul Supriyo who jumped from the BJP to TMC last year.

The Asansol constituency, which was under the Left's control, saw the BJP's win in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In Ballygunge assembly byelection, BJP turncoat Babul Supriyo is set to win by over 19,000 votes as a TMC candidate.

The seat fell vacant due to the demise of West Bengal Minister and TMC veteran Subrata Mukherjee.
