Shepherd, 170 sheep mowed down by train in Narasaraopet

Guntur, May 3 (UNI) A shepherd and his 170 sheep were mowed down by an express train at the outskirts of Narasaraopet town in this district on Friday.

Police said that the shepherd took 170 sheep for grazing. When the sheep were crossing the railway track, the deceased shepherd Nagam Thirupathaiah noticed Vijayawada-Hubli express train approaching them.

He tried to navigate the sheep from out of the track and in the melee he and his 170 sheep came under the wheels of the train. The shepherd died instantaneously and the crashed sheep were strewn along the track.

Officials said that the perished sheep were worth Rs.15 lakh.

The Railway police registered a case and shifted the shepherd body to the government general hospital in Narasaraopet.
