Senior Cong leader and Ajmer Dargah trustee Badruddin Shaikh succumbs to COVID-19

Ahmedabad/UNI: Senior Congress leader, former GPCC spokesperson and the trustee of Ajmer based world-famous Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah committee, Badruddin Shaikh died due to Covid-19 infection here last evening.

He was 68 and is survived by wife and the sole daughter.

Shaikh, the incumbent corporator of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation from Behrampur area was admitted to the SVP hospital here and was on the ventilator for the last two weeks. He also had a few co-morbid conditions including diabetes.

Party spokesperson Manish Doshi told UNI today that his wife was also found infected with the Covid 19 virus and was currently under treatment.

Shaikh was also a former member of the Gujarat University senate, former general secretary of the youth congress, ex-chairman of the standing committee of the AMC of which he was also the leader of the opposition.

Notably, the total number of corona infections in the state has crossed the 3300-mark of which nearly 2200 cases were in Ahmedabad alone.
Of the total over 150 deaths, more than 100 were in Ahmedabad.
