SC rejects petition seeking inquiry into conduct of ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi

New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking setting up of a three-judge panel to inquire into the conduct of former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, as a judge of the apex court.

A Bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, dismissed the petition filed by one, Arun Ramchandra Hublikar.

"We dismiss the petition. There is no merit in it. The respondent is already demitted his office," the bench said.

Hublikar, the petitioner-in-person, had moved the apex court and filed the plea seeking setting up of a three-judge panel to inquire into the conduct of the former CJI as a judge of the Top Court.

The petitioner has moved the apex court, seeking a direction for an "in house Inquiry" by committee of judges against former CJI Mr Gogoi alleging bias and improper conduct in passing an ex parte (without a party) order in July 2016.

The court said that Justice Gogoi has retired, nothing can be done now.

Hublikar argued before the Apex Court that he had filed a plea in 2018, it was not listed by the registry despite dozens of reminder letters being sent by him.
