SC refers AAP plea on dissolving Delhi Assembly to Constitution bench
New Delhi, July 4 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday referred Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s petition seeking dissolution of Delhi Assembly to a Constitution bench.
The Constitution bench is that of five or more judges.
The apex court, however, said that pendency of the AAP petition would not preclude Delhi's Lieutenant Governor from taking appropriate steps if he thinks it fit.
This comes after the AAP had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to direct the central government and the LG to dissolve the Delhi Assembly, and order fresh elections in the capital.
Earlier AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had demanded a fresh Assembly poll in Delhi.
The former Delhi CM alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting 'horse trading' and approached his party's MLAs.
