Piyush Goyal to lead India’s largest business delegation to Japan to deepen trade ties
New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead more than 200 Indian business representatives on a four-day visit to Japan from August 24 to 27.
The delegation, described by the Commerce Ministry as India’s largest-ever business delegation to Japan, will travel to Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka and include representatives from sectors such as manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automobiles, financial services, health care and startups.
In Tokyo, Goyal is scheduled to meet senior executives of major Japanese companies and hold discussions with Keidanren, Japan’s largest business federation, which represents more than 1,500 companies.
The visit will also feature dedicated discussions on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, startups and foreign institutional investment, as India seeks to attract greater Japanese investment in high-technology and emerging industries.
Goyal will hold bilateral talks with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa, and is also scheduled to meet senior Japanese government and parliamentary officials and interact with the Indian community.
In Nagoya, a major manufacturing hub, Goyal will lead a business roadshow with the Central Japan Economic Federation and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He is also expected to engage with Aichi Prefecture officials and Japanese investors in the automotive and steel sectors.
The visit will conclude in Osaka with an investor and business roadshow and meetings with Japanese companies in the electronics, industrial and consumer sectors.
The Commerce Ministry said the visit is aimed at giving fresh momentum to India-Japan trade and investment ties and creating new opportunities in high-technology manufacturing and next-generation industries.
Japan has been a major partner in India’s investment, technology and industrial development, with Japanese companies active in sectors including automobiles, steel, electronics, financial services and infrastructure.
The visit comes as both countries seek to deepen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership and strengthen cooperation in areas central to India’s goals of achieving greater economic self-reliance and becoming a developed economy by 2047.
