Salman Khan home break-in: Two held; woman intruder claims she was invited

Mumbai: Mumbai Police arrested a man and a woman for allegedly trying to trespass into Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence, Galaxy Apartments in Bandra (West), on two consecutive days this week, media reports said on Thursday.

Jitendra Kumar Singh (23), from Chhattisgarh, and Isha Chhabra (32), who claims to be a model — attempted to enter the building separately on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Singh was first seen loitering outside the actor’s residence around 9.45 am on Tuesday.

When a security personnel posted at the site asked him to leave, he reportedly smashed his mobile phone in anger.

"That evening, at around 7.15 pm, Singh entered Galaxy Apartments by tailing a car belonging to a resident of the building. He managed to slip inside but was apprehended and handed over to the Bandra police," an officer was quoted as saying by NDTV.

During questioning, Singh said he only wanted to meet Khan and claimed that he resorted to sneaking in after being denied entry by the security staff.

On the following day, at around 3.30 am, Chhabra made a similar attempt and even reached the apartment’s lift area before being stopped, police said. "The two accused have been arrested and cases of trespassing have been registered against them," the officer added, according to NDTV.

According to India Today, Chhabra told investigators that she knew the actor and had been invited by him.

She allegedly knocked on his apartment door and claimed that one of Khan’s family members answered it.

She continued asserting her prior connection with Khan even during her interrogation.

However, her claims were firmly refuted by the actor’s family, prompting the building staff to call the police.

Chhabra, who lives in Khar, told the police she had met Khan at a party six months ago.

Incidentally, her intrusion came just a day after Singh's failed entry on May 20. Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the incidents, according to India Today.

The actor has been under heightened security since April 14 last year, when two men allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang fired outside Galaxy Apartments.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) later revealed that Khan was at the top of the gang’s target list, reportedly due to the 1998 black buck poaching case that had angered the Bishnoi community.

Khan has since received multiple threats from the gang and has been accorded 'Y-plus' security cover.

The actor has also renovated his residence to enhance safety.

After the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique — a close friend of Khan’s — by the Bishnoi gang last year, security around his home was further tightened. Khan had visited Siddique’s home and hospital following the attack.

At a press event in Mumbai this March ahead of his film Sikandar, Khan had remarked on the toll security takes on his lifestyle.

"No, it's not when I'm with the press. It's when I'm without the press, that cramps my style. No, obviously not. I cannot do anything. It's from my residence Galaxy to shoot, and then back home after the shoot. No detours," he said.
