RK Laxman accorded state funeral

Pune, Jan 27 (IBNS) Legendary cartoonist RK Laxman, who died on Monday was accorded a state funeral here on Tuesday in presence of high dignitaries.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was among others, who attended the last rites.

Laxman died at the age of 94 following multi-organ failure.


He was admitted to the hospital in Pune on January 17 for urinary infection and had been on ventilation since then.

Laxman, brother of late novelist R K Narayan, is survived by writer wife Kamala, retired journalist son Srinivas and daughter-in-law Usha.

Earlier, his body was kept at Symbiosis College where people from all walks of life lined up to pay their last respects to the master cartoonist, whose works transcended to the level of that of a genius.

As a mark of respect, ISRO tweeted Laxman's last cartoon which he drew on the Mars Mission two weeks before his death.
