Reports saying govt denied air transit to CRPF jawans untrue: Home ministry
New Delhi, Feb 17 (IBNS): Union ministry of home affairs has denied claims by certain sections of the media that the CRPF was denied air transport on the Jammu-Srinagar-sector, Timesofindia.com said.
Forty CRPF jawans were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district when a suicide bombed detonated a car packed with RDX in the midst of an army convoy on February 14.
"Over the last few years, the MHA has significantly enhanced the air courier services for Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) in all sectors to help the jawans cut down on travel time during their journey to and back from home on leave," the MHA said.
The ministry, however, said the movement of troops by road has been and will continue to be necessary "for logistical and operational reasons".
"In Jammu and Kashmir sector, air courier service for transportation of jawans of CAPF are already in operation for quite some time. This initially included the Jammu-Srinagar-Jammu sector. Later, at the request of the CAPF in December 2017, the services were extended to Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar-Jammu-Delhi, with seven flights a week," the ministry added.
Additionally, air support from the Indian Air Force is made available as and when required.
