Relief from spam calls expected; TRAI gives recommendations

| @indiablooms | Feb 25, 2024, at 07:48 pm

New Delhi: TRAI has suggested that the name of a caller should be made visible on the phone screen as a measure to deter spam calls.

In its recommendations to the Department of Telecommunication (DoT), TRAI said "Presentation of Calling Name" must be introduced as a supplementary service in all the networks.

Unwanted calls and messages are a menace, affecting every mobile user and all efforts of the government to control the spammers have failed.

All telecom Service Providers should provide presentation of calling names to their subscribers upon their request, TRAI said.

The name used in the Customer Acquisition Form should be used as the name to be displayed.

After acceptance of recommendations, the DoT must issue appropriate notifications for making this application mandatory in all devices sold in India after a suitable cut-off date.
