Relief for Sonia, Rahul Gandhi as Delhi court refuses to act on ED chargesheet in National Herald case
New Delhi/IBNS: In a temporary relief to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the long-running National Herald money-laundering case, a Delhi court has refused to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet against the Congress leaders at this stage.
The decision means the court will not proceed with the ED’s complaint for now against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and five others.
The Rouse Avenue Court granted the relief, observing that the agency’s probe is based on a private complaint and not a First Information Report (FIR). The complaint was filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.
The court also ruled that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, along with the other accused, are not entitled to a copy of the FIR at this stage, The Times of India reported.
However, the court allowed the ED to continue its investigation in the matter.
Reacting to the order, the Congress said on X, “Truth has triumphed. The malicious and illegal actions of the Modi government have been completely exposed.”
The National Herald case has been under investigation for several years, stemming from allegations that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, along with others, misused funds and assets linked to Associated Journals Limited, the company that publishes the newspaper.
The ED has accused them of money laundering and criminal conspiracy through the company Young Indian.
